The initiative is based on the recognized necessity of refurbishing the east courtyard built in the late 19th century. The project focuses on the one hand on giving back an architectural dignity to the courtyard and its appurtenances, and on other hand on providing adequate facilities to the staff of the General Secretariat.
The project included the construction of an intermediate floor inside the central pavilion, housing a canteen and a refreshment area with tables and space for relaxation. The central pavilion also houses a nursery on the ground floor, furnished with four brightly coloured sculptures.
