Restoration of Villino Florio Palermo aimed at the creation of the Museum of Sicilian Liberty (Palermo, Italy) | |||||||
Description | The restoration project is based on the philological restoration of Basile’s work, especially as regards the reconstruction of wooden furniture lost in the 1962 fire. In this perspective, the staircase and the bow window’s glasses have been rebuilt. Particular focus was put on the recovery of the limestone built masonry and to the renewal of equipment, upgraded considering the new building’s destination as a Museum of Art Nouveau. Some of the technological solutions implemented in the restoration are very interesting; in particular, to tackle the deterioration of the original metal structures (slabs and lintels) due to galvanic corrosion, strips of activated titanium were inserted along with the original structures to prevent galvanic corrosion. |
