Description |
The project involves the restoration and functional adaptation of the Bramante Fort for socio-cultural activities and service to the town, in order to bring the Fort Bramante back to public use. The project proposes, in addition to its restoration, that the Fort host the Cultural Consulate of the Mediterranean, conceived as an organisation representing the people of the Mediterranean area, providing spaces to allow each country to set up in turn a showcase of their culture and tradition.
Restoration of the Bicchiere Pier and construction of an informative facility on the Mediterranean marine environment
The project is a reinterpretation of the old pier which recalls its original spatiality; it includes the creation of a documentation centre on the marine habitats of the Mediterranean, linked to the establishment of the Consulate of Culture of the Mediterranean Countries in the Fort Bramante. The inside of the Bicchiere would house an auditorium, a refreshment area and a panoramic restaurant.
Realisation of a link with the city and enhancement of the Arsenale area
The numerous documentary sources make it possible an almost complete reconstruction of Bernini’s original design for the Arsenale. Here we propose a reconstruction of the complex with shopping and entertainment facilities that will create a trait d’union between the port and the city.
Recovery of the Rocca to achieve service spaces and exhibition
In addition to the recovery of the walls and the external arrangement of the fortress, the projects includes interventions inside the Rocca; these include the rebuilding of the clock tower, symbol of Civitavecchia’s municipality.
In the only building that survived the WWII bombings, a Museum of Navigation will be set up; in the premises of the former fishmongers, retail spaces for bookshops and merchandising are envisaged.
Renovation and development of the Roman docks
The restoration of the dock Roman originates from the desire to re-establish the relationship between the city and the sea, through the restoration of the Sangallo’s walls and the footpaths.
Redevelopment of Lazaretto Pier and its forecourt, construction of a hotel.
In order to protect and enhance the Lazaretto Dock, a new hotel will be built partly on the forecourt next to the Lazaretto pier and partly directly on the water, so as to recall the traditional buildings on stilts over the sea that were numerous in Civitavecchia at the beginning of the 20th century. The structure is designed as a long curved arm with a strong horizontal line. The relationship between the hotel, the Sangallo’s walls and the Lazaretto pier is mediated by a garden that, by means of a water channel, insulates the area of the new development. |
